Who Do You Help?

Every person I work with is aching to engage in work that makes them excited to jump out of bed come Monday morning! They may be college students unsure which path is right for them or professionals who have enjoyed decades of success and either want to explore a new career or finally find one that makes their heart sing. Or, they are people who have had a handful of jobs but haven't found their calling and are seeking greater fulfillment in and balance among their personal, professional, social, spiritual, physical and emotional worlds. In all situations, I help them gain focus and momentum through their job search, career exploration and change, or other significant goals by providing them with the tools, support and encouragement needed to help their transformation be successful, joyful and satisfying.

What Are The Benefits Of Working With A Coach?

Navigating the many opportunities life presents us can be a challenge if we are approaching it alone. This is especially true if we feel overwhelmed, way too busy or stressed, or not exactly eager to move beyond our comfort zone. Perhaps you need some help landing the job you really want or honing the skills you need to advance in your profession, or even help switching careers. A coach helps you prioritize your ideas, options and activities, and helps you map out a plan of action that is in alignment with your personal mission, vision, values and goals.

How Does Coaching Work?

Coaching is a path of compassion lined with personal growth, self-inquiry and exploration of the answers that lie within. As Your Mindful Career Coach, I help go-getters like you identify and attain success — as you define it. Together we define the scope of your goals, look at what might be preventing you from moving forward and map out clear action steps. As needed, we also get very specific with the job search tools you will need — resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile and more as required — to be sure they are cutting edge, strategic and reflect the very special value you will bring to a professional opportunity.

How Does Coaching Differ From Therapy?

In short form, coaching is focused on moving forward while psychotherapy explores more of the past. While we will examine any areas where you may feel stuck in your job search or career change process, we won't be delving deep into your childhood to examine why. Coaching is very goal-oriented and we work together to figure out your personal mission and goals then develop specific action steps and a strategy for implementation.

You Can Incorporate Elements Of Mindfulness Into Coaching?

Yes! Mindfulness is a way of experiencing things “as they are.” By paying careful attention to how things are in a nonjudgmental way, we can see what is happening more accurately and respond more effectively in all areas of our lives. In this way, it enhances our quality of life and well-being.

I like to think of mindfulness as operating from a strong inner core. Just as a toned physical core enables our bodies to move smoothly, easily and harmoniously, a strong mental and emotional core can do the same thing for the rest of our beings. This inner fortitude helps us be much less stressed; much more relaxed and happy; far more aligned in terms of our beliefs and actions; and much better poised for success. When we feel this way, exploring big topics such as "what to do with the rest of my life" or prepping for a big interview become much less daunting. If clients find this approach beneficial, we can incorporate techniquess such as deep breathing and visualization into our sessions.

What Are Some Of The Benefits Of Mindfulness?

Mindful people:

  • Are less likely to experience psychological distress, including stress, depression and anxiety.
  • Are less neurotic, more extroverted and report greater well-being and life satisfaction.
  • Have greater awareness, understanding and acceptance of their emotions, and recover from bad moods more quickly.
  • Have less frequent negative thoughts and are more able to let them go when they arise.
  • Have higher, more stable self-esteem that is less dependent on external factors.
  • Enjoy more satisfying relationships because mindfulness helps us be more considerate, empathetic, compassionate, sensitive and flexible in our relationships.
  • Have less anger, more calm.
  • Are more focused and centered.
  • Are better at communicating.
  • Tend to have higher emotional intelligence.
  • Solve problems better.
  • Are less selfish. We are less wrapped up in our own thoughts and feelings and so have greater ability to take others into account.
  • Enjoy life more. We can become more aware of pleasant experiences that were previously unnoticed because of our mental focus is no longer on the past or the future;
  • Have better mind–body integration.

So, these qualities not only are incredibly helpful in the way we approach life, but are particularly key to the job-search and career exploration process as they help people focus on what's most important and relieve the overwhelm they may feel.
